how to felt

How’s that for an attractive snapshot?  I spent some time over the weekend felting some slippers and I had the grand idea of vlogging it for all the world to see.  Don’t you want to learn how to felt?

Here’s a great video for you.

If you don’t want to take the time to watch the video (just over 3 minutes), here are some highlights.

1.  You must use 100% wool.

2.  Hot water and agitation are key.

3.  Use a top loading washer or by hand.

4.  It will take a while.

5.  Mold your finished product to the shape you want and let it dry.

I felt with a front loader all the time! Just throw in an old pair of jeans for extra agitation and you should be good.

That’s good to know, Julie. I was concerned when the Yarn Harlot couldn’t properly felt her slippers with the front loader so I thought I’d throw in my “disclaimer”.

That is awesome. I didn’t even know one could do this.

What do you sew on for grippers?

  • Christy says:

I’m going to blog about those options later this week, Tiffany. Here’s a preview: I’m going to use Grippies–a stick-on product. You can also just use puff paint.

Christy, Do I need to pay for this pattern?
Is there a step-by-step on how to knit these slippers? What about putting on traction for the bottom of the slipper? Do these slippers give good foot support if I were to knit these for an older person?
