Here is a little coupon book that I made for my husband three years ago for Valentine’s Day. I used a few different Stampin’ Up sets to make it. I’m pretty sure they are all retired now but I’m posting this now more for the idea and less for you wanting to make an exact replica.

The inside used the Create a Coupon stamp set. Each coupon has a perforation on the inside edge for easy removal. I did that using the perforation tool from the Stampin’ Up cutter kit. I layered the coupons in between my front and back and then used my Crop-a-dile to add two large eyelets on the sides. The ribbon is decorative. It isn’t needed to hold the book together.

This is a relatively easy and very inexpensive gift to give for Valentine’s Day. The best part is that it is super customizable. You choose what you want to offer on the coupons so it is the ultimate thoughtful gift!

There is no way I have enough time to show you how to make some of the cute handmade valentine goodies out there and I’m sure you don’t always have the time to make them yourself, either. So, I thought today I would feature a few items I’ve found that you might enjoy.

Wood Conversation Hearts. These are really adorable and can be made into magnets as well. My sister-in-law emailed me about these (her sister makes them) and I thought they were great. I don’t know if she does custom lettering but it would be easy to put more sayings or letters on the back so you could use them year round. I was thinking I could have my daughter’s name spelled out and use them in her room.
Valentine Cupcake Ouchless Ponytail Holders. These are so cute, but not “too cute” that even an adult could rock one of these in her ponytail. They are also great for Valentine’s Day but but aren’t so obvious that you couldn’t use these year round. Adorable. Versatile Love it.

Be My Valentine Spa & Gift Package. For me, this is all about the packaging. I love it. For $20, you get body butter, soap, a candle and a sachet all ready for gift giving. I wonder if there are any husbands out there reading this? It would make an excellent gift!

Prescription For Love Amigurumi Pill. This item comes from the winner of last month’s Christy’s Craft Challenge, Chimera Crochet. Her little pills are some of her best sellers and are so adorable. I’ve seen them in person and they can’t help but make you smile. Do you need to write your husband a prescription for love?

This heart garland was made because I am mostly a lazy crafter. I wanted to make a little heart garland like some I’ve seen where they sew paper in a sewing machine. But, I realized that I have blue thread in my machine and I was too lazy to change it. Instead, I came up with a different way to hang my heart garland and I like it a lot!

You need the most basic of supplies. Paper, scissors, ribbon, and a hole punch. I used double sided designer paper and regular red cardstock. I strung them on 1/4″ white grosgrain ribbon.

Remember how to cut out hearts? I cut my paper into 3″ X 6″ pieces (more or less–I stopped measuring after a while) and folded it in half. I just free handed cutting out the hearts. This would be a great project to do with your scissor trained kids. They can cut out hearts all day.

When you have your hearts cut out, punch two little holes on the sides. The hole needs to be just big enough to slide the ribbon through. If you wanted to make this a more permanant decoration, I’d recommend putting eyelets in those holes.

String the ribbon through the holes and leave a couple of inches between each heart. All that’s left is to find a place to hang it up!

I think I’ve found the most inexpensive valentine treat ever. I made 43 candy cane hearts for under $1. Total. These will be just perfect for all of the cute kids in class with my kids.

I found the mini candy canes on clearance at CVS for $.19 a box. I bought two boxes of 50 candy canes each. Some of the candy canes were broken and or not quite the right shape so I ended up with 43 favors.

In addition to the candy canes, I used some gingham ribbon, white and red cardstock, and a heart stamp. A scallop punch and some smaller circle punches came in handy while making the tag.

This wasn’t the most ideal craft to make with the kids. It uses a glue gun which isn’t exactly kid friendly.

You glue the candy canes together to form a heart shape and let cool for a minute. Then, they are ready to embellish. The kids helped me punch put the scallops and they wrote their names on the back of the tags.

I’ve seen projects like this before where you just glue directly onto the candy cane to make a heart but then you can’t eat it. With these individually wrapped candy canes, they will be a treat that the kids can enjoy later!

Share your finished projects here at my flickr group!
