A couple of weeks ago our friends, The Cooks, came through town and stayed at "Hotel Nelson". During their last visit she had given me a few veggie recipes since she knew I was working on this project. I decided to have one of the salads when they came to visit. She even made it for me!
Green Bean and Walnut Salad Recipe
1/2 cup ground walnuts
2 medium-size cloves garlic, crushed in a garlic press
2 tablespoons red wine vinegar, or more to taste
1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice

I was able to take my kids to an advanced screening of Nanny McPhee Returns this week. My daughter, especially, loved the first one so it was nice to be able to treat them to this on their last day of summer break.
The movie was cute. It had the right amount of poop jokes, burping, bumbling villians, and animals to keep the kids happy. It was a little long for my taste but I wish there would have been more Ewan McGregor (hubba hubba). They've got to keep the moms happy, right? Some ...

I can't tell you how excited (I am) my kids were for the first day of school! My daughter is off to kindergarten and my son is in 2nd grade. This is my first year with them both gone for the full day. Sometimes I wonder what I'm going to do all day. Then I remember that I have this craft blog to make awesome, Toolulu, stuff to make, a house to organize and clean, and friends to hang out with.
(FREE TIME! AWESOME!) I hope I survive....

On a tip from Deb, I signed up for the Home Ec sewing classes put on by Leigh Ann at Freckled Nest.
I'm what I would consider an advanced beginner. I've made some pretty cool things with my sewing machine but I don't feel totally comfortable with it yet. It still isn't totally intuitive. This class has 26 projects. They each teach a different technique and the skill level goes up along with time in the class.
The projects that put me over the edge were this leather and canva...

The Flip-Pal Mobile Scanner was my favorite new tool from the summer CHA show. A lot of other people agreed because it won 1st prize for Innovation.
It is a small and portable scanner with a lot of capabilities. You don't need a computer to use it. It uses an SD card to store the scanned images and then you can use that to upload to your computer, take to the photo kiosk, or put in your digital frames.
I rarely scan in my old photos because my scanner is so big and clunky. Not ...

The paper pictured above is from Anna Griffin and it is flocked. Flocking is the process of applying small fibers onto a surface. Flocking has been around for a long time. On my trip to Europe this summer I even saw some old wallpaper that had been flocked. It was gorgeous! Using this technique on scrapbook embellishments isn't new but I did see a lot more of it this summer than in the past.
This paper, from Little Yellow Bicycle, isn't a traditional lace but fits the trend. Mos...

Last night I was at a party for Provo Craft's new product, the Cricut Imagine. I'll share more about the product in the next few days (I have some videos to upload and edit) but for now I wanted to show you a bit of the entertainment from the party. They brought in a performance artist, David Garibaldi. He wowed us with his speed painting to amazing music. As you can imagine (pun intended), he painted images that had to do with inspiration and imagination.
He threw in the Cricut logo ...

I've spent a lot of time watching tilt shift photography videos online over the past several months and never realized there was an easy way for those of us without a tilt shift lens or mad photoshopping skills to make some great pictures. Then I started noticing some photos on Flickr that were made using Tiltshiftmaker.com. I checked it out! I made some photos.
The little house in the middle of the street was already adorable. Now, with everything look miniature, I just want to put tha...

On my first full day in Geneva, I took a tram down to a neighborhood known for being a haven for artists, craftspeople, and the like. My kind of neighborhood, you know? It is called Carouge and I will admit...it was kind of overrated.
Sure, there was that kind of vibe and plenty of shops that fit the bill. Maybe I was expecting too much? One shop where I spent a considerable amount of time was the local knitting/needlework shop.
I couldn't bring myself to pay Swiss prices for yarn....

I'm pretty sure this shop was on Burano. It was one of the cutest shops I saw the whole time I was in Europe.
Most of the jewelry was made incorporating felt beads and glass beads. The colors were amazing and the designs had a modern whimsy that drew me in.
What really got me excited, though, were the displays. These were really clever and could easily be replicated. It would make for a gorgeous vendor booth display.
